It was a deadly crash that could have been avoided. In October 2017, a group of teens carjacked a man on the west side, leading police on a high-speed chase.
It ended when they plowed into D’Markus Blea and his girlfriend at Eubank and Menaul, killing Blea.
“I’m truly sorry for the pain, and sorry I caused you. I wish that night had never had happened,” Quontez Kuvinka said before Judge Cindy Leos in late March.
Quontez Kuvinka, 19, is one of the teens involved in the carjacking and crash. He was cut a break last month when Judge Leos delayed his sentencing and ordered him to attend a court program for two years instead.
“He was given a chance to be free to rebuild his life,” said Kyle Hartsock, the Special Agent in charge at the District Attorney’s Office.
Now, new videos of Kuvinka have surfaced. Going by the Snapchat name, “Lil Taliban,” Kuvinka is seen with other teens, shooting guns. Another video references gangs, and selling drugs like Oxycontin and THC.
“It looks like he’s kind of going right back to the same behavior he had prior to the incident,” said Hartsock.
He said the prosecutors have filed an emergency motion to get Kuvinka locked up until a hearing.
“Mr. Kuvinka was given a chance by the court and we appreciate that, but at the same time he’s flaunting his violent acts once again,” said Hartsock.
Kuvinka will go back before the judge for sentencing once the court program is complete. He still could face six years in prison, but the state has filed a motion calling for Kuvinka’s arrest immediately and that he be re-sentenced.
A hearing on that motion is scheduled for Friday, once again before Judge Cindy Leos.
