Those in Albuquerque may see smoke from a controlled fire experiment Thursday.

Black smoke could be visible to those in the metro area due to experiments by Sandia National Laboratories. The tests will take place between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at Sandia’s Lurance Canyon Burn Site located on Kirtland Air Force Base.

During the experiment, liquid jet fuel will be burned and black smoke will be visible for about 30 to 60 minutes. Officials state that there is no danger of the fire spreading and that the tests are being conducted in accordance with Sandia’s Thermal Test Complex permits.

They are also in compliance with all necessary environmental regulations.
