New Mexico tops list of states most burdened by credit card debt

New Mexico tops the list of states with the most credit card debt. 

According to CreditCards.com, the average credit card balance for New Mexicans is about $8,300. 

For a family earning the median income of $60,000 a year, the group estimates it would take more than a year to pay that off with around $1,000 in interest. 

States with the lowest debt included Hawaii, Utah and Minnesota.
