A county in eastern New Mexico has declared itself a “Second Amendment Sanctuary County.”
The Quay County Commission voted unanimously in favor of the resolution. They say it’s in response to several gun-control bills pending in state legislature.
One of them is House Bill 8, which would require background checks on all gun sales.
The New Mexico Sheriff’s Association has come forward saying the laws are ill-conceived, unenforceable and punish law abiding citizens.
The House Republicans issued a statement Wednesday saying they are proud of Quay County for standing up for the rights of New Mexicans.
Curry and Union Counties passed similar situations earlier this week and Eddy County Commissioners are slated to vote on their version next Tuesday.
The New Mexico Sheriff’s Association has been vocal against the gun bills, including one that would require background checks on all gun sales. They also say the laws would be unenforceable and punish law-abiding citizens.
