SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Officials believe speed was a factor in a crash that killed a teenager early on Sunday. The Santa Fe Police Department reports the crash happened on Mutt Nelson Road near Veterans Memorial Highway at 12:57 a.m.

Responding officers located the single-vehicle crash and identified the driver as 16-year-old Jesus Montijo-Taverez who died at the scene. Mutt Nelson Road was closed during the initial investigation and reopened around 5:20 a.m.

Authorities say speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. The incident is active and the investigation in ongoing.
