A Lovington man who killed a couple when he blew through a stop sign is headed to prison.

A Lea County jury found Oscar Martinez-Zamora guilty of vehicular homicide for the 2016 crash that killed newlyweds Joseph and Tymplaire Weir.

At trial, he claimed his brakes failed, but the state showed evidence his brakes were fine.

Martinez-Zamora, now 21 years old, was facing 15 years in prison.

Judge William Shoobridge sentenced him to 10, with the remaining five years to be served on probation.
