New Mexico state lawmakers are setting their priorities ahead of the 60-day legislative session, which begins next month.

Senate Majority Leader Peter Wirth and House Speaker Brian Egolf hosted a presentation on legislative priorities over the weekend.

According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, both lawmakers say the No. 1 priority will be improving the public education system.

They hope to increase money for early childhood education and raise teacher salaries.

They say tax reform, health care and job growth are also priorities.

The 60-day session begins on January 15.
