(KRQE) – A fire burning in the Carson National Forest has spread to 2,360 acres. The lightning-caused Gurule Fire began burning Friday, June 7 in the El Rito Ranger District, west of the El Rito Canyon.
Friday, June 21, crews focused on reinforcing containment lines along Forest Road 559 and on the eastern side of the fire. Officials are expecting a cold front to move southeast Saturday evening through the southern Tusas Mountains which could bring erratic wind conditions.
Also on Friday, fire resources at the Gurule Fire responded to another blaze, the Potrero Fire which is burning seven miles northwest of El Rito in the El Rito Ranger District of Carson National Forest. Smoke is anticipated to be seen from Tres Piedras, La Madera, El Rito, Vallecitos, Canon Plaza, Canjilon, and Abiquiu.
A Temporary Flight Restriction is actively in place over this fire. Fire officials warn the public that unauthorized use of drones in fire areas endangers the lives of firefighters and pilots and is forbidden.
