HELENA — It has been several months in the making, but Friday was the official groundbreaking ceremony at the Lewis and Clark Library in Helena.
The renovation process started six weeks ago and is expected to be done sometime in September.
Meeting rooms will be improved, bathrooms updated, as well as, children and teen areas enlarged.
Another big improvement is the structural integrity of the building. They will be adding fire suppression and making the library more ADA accessible.
Dick Anderson Construction and Mosaic Architecture and Design are working to make the library safe and durable for another 40 years and give it a modern design.
Overall, the new designs of the renovation show modernization and expansion to improve the library and better serve the community.
This renovation is something Library Director Jim Finn says, has been 3 years in the making, and he is excited to see it all come to fruition.
Finn added, “We have been planning this for a long time, and just having the ceremony today gives us a sense of kicking off this project in earnest and we are really happy that the construction has gone as well as it has so far and look forward to a very easy summer.”
Director Finn hopes to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony sometime in mid-September when the library renovations are expected to be complete.
Lots of people from the community were in attendance for the groundbreaking ceremony, despite temperatures being in the teens.
Lewis and Clark County Board of Trustees Chair, Niki Whearty spoke, along with representatives from Mosaic Architecture and Design, and Dick Anderson Construction.
