The Sioux Falls Public Works Department has a reminder for people about snow gates.

With the amount of snow the city just received, snow gates will reduce what is left on people's driveway, but will not completely remove it.

Because the snow has been very light, it is spilling over the top of the gate leaving more than owners normally see.

"And they're not intended to eliminate this snow amount," Sioux Falls Public Works Director Mark Cotter said. "They are intended to reduce in the larger events. There's going to be more that spills over."

Cotter also said that with the cold temperatures, there has not been much of a melting period, causing snow to pile up in the boulevards and narrow residential streets.

Property owners will have to remove more snow if they want to park on the street or have a mailbox.
