Avera Careflight will have an open house Wednesday afternoon to showcase its new hangar at the Pierre Regional Airport.

Clinical Care Manager Anna VandenBosch tells Dakota Radio Group they have been operational for about a week.

"We moved in on Nov. 5, just into a hangar built for us, and we have crew quarters there that houses a critical care paramedic, a critical care nurse and a pilot 24 hours a day to serve you guys' community," she said. "We respond -- our main goal and mission was to serve the people and get them back to the care center here from Pierre -- or the middle of the state -- back to Sioux Falls."

VandenBosch said the open house starts at 4:30 p.m.

"We're going to have an open house and ribbon cutting," she said. "Community is completely welcome, we would highly encourage it. You can meet our crews. We'll have our aircraft on static display, so we're fortunate right now, we have enough aircrafts to service the area while we have that aircraft here, so you can come see where everyone's working and everything that we do."

The Avera Careflight hangar is located at 4220 Airport Rd. in Pierre.
