Authorities are looking for a dog who they say bit a boy in a central Sioux Falls neighborhood.

It happened around 3:45 p.m. Sunday at a home on the 3000 block of S. Hawthorne Avenue.

According to Animal Control Supervisor Julie DeJong, a small child was playing in his yard when a brindle-colored pit-bull mix dog with black spots ran into the yard. The boy began playing with the dog, and the dog jumped up to lick the victim's face. The dog's teeth caught the victim's cheek and caused a minor injury.

The dog ran off. It was not attended by an owner, and was not wearing a collar.

DeJong said Animal Control needs to identify the dog to verify its vaccinations. If you have any information about the case, you're asked to call animal control at 367-7000.
