Sioux Falls-area racing facility to reopen in 2019

Racing will soon return to the Sioux Falls area.

The I-90 Speedway near Hartford will reopen in 2019.

Rob Pattison, who will serve as general manager of the track, made the announcement on Thursday morning.

Lyle and Dawn Howey will continue to own the facility, but Pattison will take over managing duties.

Pattison said the 2019 racing season will begin in early May and run Saturday nights through early September.

Race Saver Sprint Cars will headline the weekly competition, along with Late Model Street Stocks, B-Modifieds and Hobby Stocks. I-90 Speedway will also host several special events including the Midwest Sprint Touring Series (MSTS 360 Sprints) and the Tri-State Late Model Series.

Details on schedule dates, rules and more will be announced on Tuesday, December 11.

Pattison said I-90 Speedway originally opened in 1976. The 3/8 mile dirt oval last held competition in 2015.
