The South Dakota Hall of Fame on Wednesday recognized everyday acts that make the state extraordinary.

The "Acts of Excellence" ceremony recognized eight recipients, including Bria Neff, a 12-year-old Sioux Falls girl who is using her talent as an artist to raise awareness of endangered species.

Organizers said the event is an opportunity to thank great South Dakotans like Neff for elevating excellence in the state.

"The whole point is to have people tell us about these people -- we recognize them -- with the idea that we thank them and inspire other people to do the same, we want to champion a culture of excellence in this state," board member Dave Olson said.
