WWII bomber flying across South Dakota

The South Dakota Air and Space Museum hopes to raise awareness about a WWII raid made possible by the efforts of two South Dakotans.

The flight across South Dakota is designed to bring awareness to the Doolittle Raid that occurred in 1942.

It will feature an authentic WWII bomber, like the one used in the raid, while making stops in several cities in the state.

The bomber landed in Sioux Falls this afternoon.

The raid in 1942 consisted of 16 bombers launched from an aircraft carrier for an attack on mainland Japan.
