MIAMI — Just by looking at the palm trees, Duane Brock can tell he’s a long way away from Kansas City. But the Chiefs fan feels right at home.

“It’s just one of those lifetime things,” he said.

Brock and his friend, Brian Blanchard, decided to road trip to Miami after the Chiefs won the AFC Championship.

They left the metro area last Thursday, and after a quick stop in Atlanta, arrived in South Florida.

Their trip took about 21 hours to complete.

“We wanted to go to the celebrations every day over at the Convention Center. We’ve been there twice already and we are going to go back for more, once they open it back up,” Blanchard said.

Robert Thome took an unusual step before he decided to road trip to Miami.

He had a priest bless his bus before driving 24 hours in his Chiefs tailgating bus by himself from Wichita.

“It’s been 50 years waiting, that’s how important it is,” Thome said, describing why he decided to do the drive. “Hell, you only live once.”

Thome did buy a Super Bowl ticket for around $6,500. Brock and Blanchard, on the other hand, plan on leaving Miami before the weekend to get back to Kansas City to watch the game.

“Its memories we get to bring with us. Forget all of those though years. Let’s think about this. We wanted to make new positive memories and watch the Chiefs win,” Blanchard said.
