MIAMI — Marlins Park is known for its contemporary design and sleek architecture, and that's thanks to a Kansas City-based company.

Geoff Cheong is one of the ballpark's original designers at Kansas City-based Populous.

"Spent a lot of time down there," he said. "We really tried to envision something special, something colorful, something that had the life and the vibe of South Florida."

There are no straight lines in the stadium, which is supposed to be representative of the "merging of the ocean and the land."

"One of the other things we drew inspiration from was the history of the site," Cheong said. "At the old Orange Bowl, the end zone faced downtown Miami. There was a great view of the skyline, and so we thought that was important to maintain."

Super Bowl Opening Night on Monday will be hosted at Marlins Park, marking the first time both teams will be available to the media for game week and the only time both teams will be in the same venue together until game day.
