SALT LAKE CITY — If you would like to help people experiencing homelessness in the Salt Lake area through in-kind donations, items can be taken to several locations, including:
Locations
The Road Home

- Underwear for men, women, children (new)

- Towels
- Coats and jackets (all sizes)
- Jeans and warm clothing (all sizes)
- Boots and shoes (all sizes)
- Blankets (twin, full, and queen)
- Diapers (sizes 5-6, and Pull-Ups)
- Baby bottles and formula
- Summer clothes (all sizes)
- Sunscreen, lip balm (ChapStick), water bottles

Items must be new or gently used, clean and in good condition. More information is available at The Road Home website.
That organization is scheduled to close its downtown Salt Lake City shelter by September. However, its family shelter in Midvale will remain open, and The Road Home will begin operating a new 300-bed men's resource center in South Salt Lake.
Additionally, two more new resource centers will open this summer: Catholic Community Services of Utah will run the men's and women's resource center, and Volunteers of America, Utah will operate the women's resource center, both in Salt Lake City, according to the nonprofit directing the operations of all three new facilities.
Those organizations also accept donations for all of their programs.

- Are these the only agencies collecting donations for the homeless in Salt Lake?
No, this is not an exhaustive list. Other agencies include Rescue Mission, Family Promise Salt Lake, South Valley Services, Center for Women and Families, and others.* - Do donated items have to be new? Not necessarily, unless otherwise indicated. Some agencies will accept gently used goods, but they must be clean and in good condition. Check the agencies' websites for details.

The Road Home's downtown shelter is scheduled to completely close in September. However, three new shelters are set to open. Those new facilities will be operated by The Road Home, Catholic Community Services and Volunteers of America Utah. - How do I donate items for the three new shelters opening in the Salt Lake area this summer/fall?
Officials at Shelter the Homeless, which directs the new facilities, suggest donating to The Road Home, Catholic Community Services, and Volunteers of America Utah. All of those agencies accept donations on an on-going basis.
