SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski announced on Twitter Friday that the 68th United Nations General Society Conference will cause "significant" pedestrian and vehicle traffic disruptions around the Salt Palace Convention Center next week.
Beginning Sunday night and running through Wednesday night, several downtown streets will be either fully or partially closed to enhance security for conference dignitaries and attendees. According to a map Biskupski tweeted, 200 West will be closed to cars and pedestrians between South Temple and 100 South.
Other streets will also be reduced to a single lane of traffic each way, including South Temple and 200 South between West Temple and 300 West.

Pedestrian traffic not affiliated with the conference will be restricted near several Salt Palace entrances.
The conference will also affect public transportation, as Utah Transit Authority buses will not be making westbound stops on 200 South between West Temple and 200 West, and the two GREENBike stations on West Temple near the Salt Palace will be closed.
According to the Salt Lake City website, the U.N. General Society Conference is expected to attract between 2,000 and 4,000 representatives from over 300 nongovernmental organizations. This is the first time the conference has been held in the United States outside of New York City.
