SALT LAKE CITY — Kyle Collinsworth is coming back to Utah.

On Saturday, the Utah Jazz announced they have signed the former BYU Cougar — the day after the organization acquired him from the Raptors 905 of the G-League. The Jazz waived the Trevon Bluitt to make room for the Collinsworth on the 20-man training camp roster.

On Friday, the Salt Lake City Stars announced they acquired the returning player rights of Collinsworth. The Stars also acquired Rodney Pryor from Toronto in the deal and sent Jairus Lyles and Justin Reyes to Ontario.

So does the signing mean that Collinsworth will soon be playing at Vivint Arena? Maybe — but not likely. Collinsworth probably won’t be fighting for the 15-man regular-season roster, but Utah does have four affiliate roster spots (along with another two two-way deal that the team has already used to sign draft picks Jarrell Brantley and Justin Wright-Foreman). While the terms of the deal weren’t released, it seems reasonable that Collinsworth will take one of those affiliate spots.

A player whose returning rights are held by a G League team can’t become an affiliate player for another club. That’s why Friday’s trade had to occur before the Jazz signed the former Provo High and BYU standout.

It’s also possible that Bluitt ends up taking one of those four affiliate spots, too. With a full 15-man roster, plus two two-way players and four affiliates, that equals a maximum of 21 players. But only 20 are allowed in training camp at a time.

Collinsworth also has NBA experience. During the 2017-18 season, he played 32 games for the Dallas Mavericks and averaged 3.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

Last season with Raptors 905, he appeared in 28 games and averaged 10.5 points on 44.9 percent from the field, 7.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists.

In four years at BYU, Collinsworth averaged 12.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.6 steals. He left school after four years with NCAA records for career and single-season triple-doubles.
