SALT LAKE CITY — Tracy Aviary located its missing bird Friday, hours after asking the public's help in finding her.

Matilda, a red-tailed black cockatoo, was chased away by a wild bald eagle and flew out of the aviary about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Tracy Aviary announced on Facebook Friday morning, aviary officials asked the public to keep an eye out for her.

Staff found Matilda late Friday morning after someone reported hearing her vocalizing in Liberty Park.

At about 2:30 p.m., the aviary posted that the bird was safe, though still high up in a pine tree. The rain and snow made it hard for the cockatoo to get down immediately, but her keepers stayed close until the weather cleared up.

By 4 p.m., Matilda had returned home to the aviary.

“Her keepers are glad she is home and will be making sure she is healthy and happy over the next few days, after her time away,” a Facebook post reads.

Staff also thanked the “amazing community once again for their help and support during our time of need.”
