SALT LAKE CITY — A man was transported to a hospital in "extremely critical" condition after a shooting Thursday afternoon, police said.

Police responded to a report of a shooting at 648 N. 900 West shortly after 1:30 p.m., according to Salt Lake City police detective Greg Wilking.

When emergency crews arrived, they found the individual outside with at least one gunshot wound to the torso and performed life-saving measures on him before he was taken to a hospital. His name and age weren't released.

The shooter remains at large, but authorities don't believe there's a threat to the public, according to Wilking.

“This looks like it was an isolated incident," he said.

Salt Lake police said they are looking for a dark-colored Honda Accord or Civic driven by a male in relation to the shooting. Investigators planned to canvas the area in search of possible video that might help investigate the case.

The area where the shooting is expected to be closed down for the next few hours while officers investigate, Wilking said.
