Winter storms are taking a toll on Wichita roads and crews have gone from removing snow to now patching potholes.

They’re an ugly sight for drivers

“We are proactively going out trying to patch those,” says Maintenance Engineer Aaron Henning.

Brian Goose and his partner are a sight for sore eyes.

“Always make sure to sweep out the hole,” Goose says. “Then, flatten it out.”

“There is probably a little more in the core of downtown where you have a little more of the older streets,” says Henning. “See pot holes crop up everywhere.”

This crew has patched roughly 90 holes.

“The best we can,” says Goose.

“I mean I think it is a hazard for a lot of people,” Hanna Pudden, driving from Ark City.

“We are just trying to get everything we can find,” Henning adds.

The city tries to knock out 60,000 pot holes a year but recent cold weather can set things back.

“Following any precipitation event, especially a freezing event, we do have a lot of pot holes that tend to crop up,” Henning says.

So you can expect Goose and other crews to continue filling holes.

“I imagine we will be out again in similar strength tomorrow,” Henning says.
