Topeka city officials say crews will pretreat bridges and overpasses with an anti-deicing agent this afternoon and evening in anticipation of a winter storm forecast to drop between 1 to 3 inches Friday in the Topeka area.

“Today we are planning our storm response strategy, watching the weather, and checking equipment,” said Jaci Vogel, Deputy Director of Public Works Operations. “Once the event begins, crews will begin working two 12-hour shifts, spreading salt and plowing when necessary on emergency and primary streets.”

The city’s on-call contractor will assist treating some of and secondary streets.
