A local organization will now be able to serve more at-risk kids thanks to a community donation.
The Topeka Heartland Sertoma Club raised $11,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters during their annual Great Topeka Duck Race.
The money will go to help the organization with their mission to help kids in difficult situations find a mentor.
“These kids are coming from backgrounds where they really need that one on one,” said Big Brothers Big Sisters Area Director Eric Maydew. “They’re usually missing that component in their life, and are lacking a little bit of direction. When you insert a big into their life, a positive role model and it can change their life forever.”
The Sertoma Club raised a grand total of $29,000 from the duck race.
