A meeting took place Wednesday night for the biggest block party in Topeka.

Today community members met for the first planning meeting for National Night Out at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library.

The event is put on by Safe Streets each year. The purpose is to bring the community together and allow people to connect with their local law enforcement officers.

“It’s a good time to get together, to be relaxed and meet law enforcement and have face to face contact with them to make them feel more comfortable,” said Tami Shirey, who lives at Pines Apartments.

You still have time to sign up your neighborhood for National Night Out.

The event will take place on August 10th.
