Police want to streamline the process of reporting certain crimes by offering an online process instead of calling the department. The website on the TPD’s homepage https://www.topeka.org/tpd/citizen-reporting/ will take reports on the following types of crime:

  • Lost or missing personal property. However, for items like a bicycle or a firearm found on your property, TPD wants a call at 785-368-9551 to send an officer to retrieve it and check it into TPD’s lost and found room.
  • Unlawful use of financial information: if someone used your credit card or bank information to purchase goods or services.
  • Identity theft: if someone used your personal information without your consent.
  • Property damage under $1,000 in estimated value. Theft of property outside your home under $1,000 in estimated value. Burglaries to homes and theft of firearms, vehicles, ATVs, or boats must be reported directly to an officer by calling TPD.
  • Harassment by phone

The new program allows residents to upload photographs or documents to be collected as evidence.
