More than 200 people are dead after eight bombs exploded in a church and hotels in Sri Lanka, shocking the world on this Easter Sunday.
A Topeka church is standing with the victims, showing support for the South Asian country.
A moment of silence and prayer, as the Grace Episcopal Cathedral stopped and prayed for Sri Lanka.
On this Easter Sunday, more than 200 people were killed, and hundreds were left with wounds, as eight bombs were set off near a church and a hotel. This being the deadliest attack since a civil war 10-years ago.
“It’s great for us to open our eyes to the suffering and the need for reconciliations around the globe and right out in our own city,” said Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas, Cathleen Bascom.
The church said money isn’t the only thing that can help these people. A simple prayer, and thought, can go a long way.
“It strengthens the fellowship of belief around the world as well,” said Episcopal Diocese of Kansas Rev. Torey Lightcap. “Even if you’re just praying by yourself.”
Recognizing Topeka can also play a part in helping the country heal.
“We do have hope,” Bishop Basom said. “And we do know that. We’ve got to change the world. We each have our little bit. We can’t do it all at once, but we each have something we can do to work against that kind of hatred.”
The church said they didn’t know about the explosion during their first service this morning, and once they found out they did everything they could to support the South Asian country.
