NORTH LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — No suspect in custody, no sign of a break-in, and a North Las Vegas family is devastated after a father was found dead in his own home Tuesday night.

His 12-year-old son discovered the body.

"He found his dad shot, killed," said the victim's former partner. She also identified the man killed as Michael Jamerson.

The woman told 13 Action News that their family is in bad shape after the incident, and she was afraid for her life so, therefore, did want to be identified.

The victim's ex said North Las Vegas investigators had obtained surveillance video from the home and nearby neighbors to investigate further what happened before the homicide.

"He was an amazing father with no issues. Our son lived with us equally. It was 'team our son' and whatever we did it was for him," she said. The woman also said Jamerson was a good man and that they co-parented well.

North Las Vegas police say a 12-year-old was in the shower when he heard a gunshot. The mother added that her son hid in the laundry room after he discovered the body had a gunshot wound.

She also claimed she found out about the homicide when her son sent her a text as she was at the airport.

"He was terrified and waited for the police to show up before he came out. I was on the plane when I got the text from him. We are not doing well," she said.

13 Action News asked the family if Jamerson had any enemies.

She recalled Jamerson being shot at awhile ago as he was in his garage, leaving for work, but that it is still hard for her to believe Jamerson had any enemies.

The woman said he was a man of faith and went out of his way to help others.

"He fed the homeless and took our son to church every Sunday. He was at every sporting event our son had, and he was always there. Anytime, I needed him even as a friend he was there - even after we were no longer together. He was one of my biggest supporters," she said.

The mother also reacted to accusations from social media; some people blame her and her son for the death of the 48 year old.

"I've been seeing a lot of negative comments, and I just want to clarify that there is a 12-year-old boy who just lost his father. I wish people here were a lot kinder and more empathetic. We had nothing to do with this," she said.

13 Action News requested an update on the homicide case. North Las Vegas police said the incident continues to be under investigation.
