The following is a roundup of breaking news from around the Las Vegas valley for January 5, 2019.

6:30 P.M.

The Nevada Department of Corrections is investigating an apparent suicide that occurred in the afternoon of January 5, 2019. Correctional officers found Inmate Scott Raymond Dozier hanging from a bed sheet tied to an air vent in his cell at Ely State prison in Ely, Nevada. Responding staff made immediate notification to medical staff and attempted to provide emergency medical care until help arrived. Dozier was pronounced dead at approximately 4:35 P.M. by emergency medical staff at the scene. Dozier was housed alone at the time. Dozier was committed from Clark County on December 11, 2007 and was sentenced to death for first degree murder. An autopsy is being scheduled.

2:15 P.M.

UPDATE: Nevada Highway Patrol says that the crash on I-15 southbound was caused by a semi truck that slammed into another truck. 7 other vehicles also involved. Southbound I-15 is still closed. FULL STORY

11:30 A.M.

It appears that at least 3 vehicles -- a semi and two passenger vehicles were involved in the crash near Primm. The southbound lanes are still closed.

Interstate 15 is closed at the California-Nevada state line because of a crash.

7:23 A.M.
North Las Vegas Police report that a 77-year-old man who was reported missing Friday night has been found. Officials say James Moore was found in good health on the 6300 block of West Cheyenne Avenue and has been reunited with his family.

7:01A.M.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan watch commander reports that a person was transported to a local hospital after being stabbed multiple times during an apparent robbery on the 700 block of North Las Vegas Boulevard at East Wilson Avenue, north of East Bonanza Road. The condition of the victim is unknown at this time and a suspect has not been taken into custody.
