Anchorage federal buildings open in Anchorage following earthquake damage

Officials with the U.S. General Services Administration announced Thursday that several buildings in Anchorage are now open once again, after being previously closed down for inspection of damage caused by last week's massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake.

Those buildings include the Historic Federal Building and Fitzgerald Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Anchorage. According to Chad Hutson with the GSA, those buildings are open as of Thursday.

While many offices come back online after the quake, Hutson said the GSA is still keeping their eyes open for other, potential damages, and encourage people to always call ahead to ensure the building is open.

"GSA recommends the public contact the agency they wish to visit and learn the agency’s operational status," Hutson said in an email to KTUU. "Some federal offices may still be in the midst of clean up."
