While many areas of Anchorage had seen ice covering puddles already this fall, Anchorage recorded its first official frost of the season as on Thursday as measured at the Anchorage International Airport.

Officially, the airport reached 32 degrees at 7 a.m. on the morning of Sept. 26.

While it might feel early, the average date of the first frost is about three days earlier, on Sept. 23, according to the National Weather Service.

The record for that date is 22 degrees, set in 1992, while the record high is 59 degrees, set in 1995.

The normal low for Sept. 26 is 39 degrees.

KTUU's chief meteorologist Jackie Purcell says that "the combination of clear skies and cold air prompted the rapid cool-down."
