Anchorage pedestrian struck in crosswalk, APD says driver had green light

A section of the Seward Highway was shut down where it enters into a major midtown intersection, after a driver hit a pedestrian who was using the crosswalk there late Wednesday night.

Anchorage Police got a call around 11:50 p.m. that a woman walking across the street at the intersection of the Seward Highway, and 36th Avenue, had been hit by a car. The driver is a man, APD said, and both parties involved are adults.

Police say the pedestrian who was struck was the one at fault due to the traffic signals displayed at the time of the crash.

"The driver struck a pedestrian in the cross walk. The driver had the green light. The pedestrian had the red light. Appears to be pedestrian error," MJ Thim, APD spokesperson, said in an email.

The pedestrian received "serious injuries" in the crash, according to Thim, and was transported to a local hospital. No arrests were made at the scene.
