Anchorage woman charged with stealing over $7,000 from local elementary school

An Anchorage woman is being charged with stealing over $7,000 from William Tyson Elementary School between April and July of 2017, while she was the treasurer of the PTA.

According to the criminal complaint, as the treasurer, Kayla Rachelle Faaloua had signature authority on a Wells Fargo bank account, and the associated debit card was in her name. She was the only person on the account at the beginning of 2017.

The complaint states that during that time, Faaloua made charges totaling $7,346.45 that were not PTA related.

When school staff returned from summer break at the end of July, they noticed the questionable debit card transactions with no receipts, and several thousand dollars worth of unauthorized cash withdrawals.

When interviewed about the transactions, Faaloua originally said they were all authorized. She said the purchases were for food and clothes for the PTA, and the cash was for landscaping during the summer. The detective interviewing Faaloua said there were no receipts for any of the transactions.

Faaloua later admitted that she made one of the cash withdrawals over the summer when her car broke down. She also admitted all the cash withdrawals were made by her, even if she had forgotten about them.

Faaloua is being charged with count of theft in the second degree, and one count of misapplication of property.
