Anchorage’s Schumacher named Junior Skier of the Year

It’s been a whirlwind year for the Alaska Winter Stars' Gus Schumacher, who was named FasterSkier’s junior skier of the year Tuesday.

Schumacher, a 2018 graduate, made a name for himself on the world stage anchoring the

U20 men’s relay team at Junior Worlds in Lahti, Finland.

The 18-year-old was the top junior athlete in every race at the Senior National Championships and went on to sweep Junior Nationals at Kincaid Park in March. With success at U.S. nationals and World Juniors, Schumacher earned a spot at the World Cup during the final races in Québec City later in the month.
