The Anchorage Assembly will likely appropriate $585,000 at its regular meeting Tuesday to address homelessness in the city.

$400,000 comes as a result of Mayor Ethan Berkowitz’s

on July 24. That money will go to Catholic Social Services to fund the Brother Francis Shelter at full capacity through June 30, 2020. This comes as a procurement from the Municipality of Anchorage’s Department of Health and Human Services.

$185,000 will be transferred from the 2019 Anchorage Health Department General Fund and converted into grant funding for the Anchorage Health Department. This will dedicate funding for individual projects for the municipality’s Mobile Intervention Team and Overflow Shelter program.

The assembly will also likely take action on a

that would give fire officials legal authority to expedite camp abatement in areas with high wildfire danger.

The regular meeting starts at 5 p.m. at Loussac Library.
