UPDATE: Victim identified in fatal house fire on Strawberry Road in Anchorage

April 11 Update:

In the days following a house fire where one Anchorage resident was found dead inside, the victim has been identified but the cause of the fire, and how the woman died, remains under investigation.

The woman killed in the April 7 fire was identified as Katherine Schmidt, 47, by the Anchorage Police Department on Thursday.

Her exact cause of death has not been disclosed.

That fire was on the 5000 block of Strawberry Road. APD says the Anchorage Fire Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire. They ask for anyone with information about the investigation to call Dispatch at 311.

An early morning fire killed an Anchorage resident Sunday according to the Anchorage Fire Department.

AFD said that at around 2:08 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a home on the 5000-block of Strawberry Road.

Callers reported both smoke and fire coming from the house.

Crews brought the home fire under control around 2:55 a.m., officials said, and when searched the structure, one victim was found.

No other residents or firefighters were harmed, and the fire remains under investigation.
