The Federal Emergency Management Agency has opened at disaster recovery center at Community Covenant Church in Eagle River, where officials will be onsite to provide referrals to those affected by the November 30th earthquake. One will open on Monday, Feb. 18, in Wasilla as well.

The plan is to also have representatives from the state's individual assistance program located there.

The Eagle River and Wasilla centers will remain open Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The services offered at the site include: assistance with paperwork, checking the status of your application and help applying for the SBA’s low-interest disaster loans for businesses, private nonprofits, homeowners and renters.

Jack Heesch, a public affairs officer for FEMA, said it's important that affected Alaskan's understand the difference between apply for state assistance and a FEMA grant.

"Over 14,000 people have applied for state assistance," he said. "Only 2000 have applied through FEMA.

"It's important that people understand that applying for one program doesn't count for the other," he continued. "You need to apply for both."

The deadline for submitting your application with FEMA or the SBA is April 1st. The state individual assistance program has a deadline of February 28th.

The Eagle River center is open at Covenant Community Church, located at 16123 Artillery Rd. The Wasilla center will be located at Christ First United Methodist Church at 2635 S. Knik Rd.
