While under mostly sunny skies Thursday Anchorage warms into the mid 60s.

An organized front is on track to move into the Gulf of Alaska this forecast period. The bulk of the moisture will remain over the Gulf of Alaska. Kodiak and Prince William Sound can also anticipate rain from this system but the mountains will prevent the moisture from making any headway into Anchorage or the Mat-Su Valleys. Friday and Arctic trough will descend south of the Brooks Range and later south of the Alaska Range. This trough will usher cooler temperatures in the upper atmosphere into the region and increase the chance of showers.

Partly sunny early but turning mostly sunny to sunny in Anchorage Thursday while we warm up to 66 degrees with areas of smoke. Plus 35 mph gusts along Turnagain Arm and higher elevations. Mostly clear in the evening then becoming mostly cloudy with a low of 49 degrees as well as areas of smoke plus 15 mph winds out of the southeast as well as 30 mph gust along Turnagain Arm and higher elevations decreasing to 15-30 mph after Midnight.

Mostly cloudy on Friday while we see a high of 64 degrees with areas of smoke. Friday night mostly cloudy turning partly cloudy after Midnight with areas of smoke.

Looking ahead, Anchorage will be partly cloudy on Saturday with a high of 67 degrees.

Fire Weather: The biggest question is how strong the southeast winds will be over the Swan Lake Fire through the day (Thursday) today. Other fires in the region are not as susceptible to the southeast direction as Swan Lake, including the one in the Bristol Bay region. Overall there will be a slow trend toward more moist conditions into the weekend. Smoke is expected to remain an issue across Southcentral and parts of Southwest Alaska for the next few days. Air quality in Anchorage and the Valley's is still at a Level 2 or MODERATE which means the air could be dangerous for allergy and asthma sufferers.
