The man whose skull was

has been identified by authorities, but his death still remains a mystery.

Police say the skull belongs to Chung Ho Kang, 61, an Anchorage man who was

He was described at the time as being 5’6” tall, 170 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes.

In a community alert, APD said the cause of death has not been determined, and asked for more information from anyone who may know what happened to Kang.

His skull was found on an Anchorage-area trail, when a resident was taking their dog on a walk in a wooded area in the 7400 block of Campbell Airstrip Road.

The dog reportedly found body remains, including what was later determined to be a human skull by the state medical examiner.

APD said the SME determined that the body was a man who had "extensive dental work," which may have helped lead to his identification.
