HELENA — Another candidate has joined the race for an open seat on the Lewis and Clark County Commission.
Tyrel Suzor-Hoy, of Helena, filed his paperwork last week at the Lewis and Clark County Elections office. He was joined by several supporters.
“I am excited to work for this county,” he said. “I’m going to be out in the community, on the ground, every single day, learning the voice of the people.”
Suzor-Hoy is seeking the commission position representing District 2, which includes parts of central Helena and the Helena Valley, along with the Augusta area. Incumbent Susan Good Geise is not running for a second term.
Suzor-Hoy works for the Montana Department of Transportation in the field of materials science – testing roadway materials to make sure they meet federal standards. He said he also owns two small businesses of his own.
If elected to the commission, Suzor-Hoy says he wants to focus on issues like improving mental health services, encouraging economic development and supporting first responders.
“I would be honored to be the next Lewis and Clark County commissioner, because I will work for this county, and I will put in the time and effort every single day to ensure that this county remains a wonderful place to live and raise our families,” he said.
Suzor-Hoy has had some experience running for elected office. He previously served as a member of the Helena Citizens Council. He also ran in the Democratic primary for Montana Public Service Commission, District 5, in 2018.
Suzor-Hoy is the second candidate to file for this position, after Tom Rolfe. This is the first time all county commission candidates are filing for a single nonpartisan primary, after county voters approved electing officials without party labels.
