BILLINGS — After a little batch of rain fell around noon in Billings, the sun has come out and the rain has moved into Wyoming and dissipated.
As a result, the temperature has jumped up from the 40s to 53 degrees here at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Around the rest of the state, the temperatures are already up into the 60s. In western Montana, we still see a few lingering 40s up in the northeast corner of the state, and 50s are everywhere else.
The Doppler radar and satellite imagery shows the scattered light rain showers that moved into Billings has now dissipated and another batch of rain continues to make its way into west-central Montana.
This rain will follow the jet stream and could move into Billings later Tuesday night, thanks to a new cold front dropping down from Canada.
The high-rResolution forecast model shows that cold front could contain a few scattered thunderstorms, nothing really severe, except for maybe some high winds after 6 p.m.
Eventually that cold front will drop into the central plains and we will see a line of rain and snow showers fill in behind the front, Wednesday morning.
Those showers will stick around through most of the day on Wednesday but by Thursday, high pressure moves in and starts to clear out the skies.
Rainfall amounts will be light for Billings about 0.05 inches. Jordan could pick up maybe about half an inch while Miles City could see maybe a third of an inch of precipitation.
Even some light snow is expected across the state. Places like Bozeman and Livingston could pick up one to two inches of new snow.
Ttemperatures will continue stay cool on Wednesday, mostly to the 40s, but bounced back up into the 60s on Friday and then roll back down into the 30s late Sunday and Monday.
