WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - (Update Friday, Aug. 14, 2020): Wichita Public Schools confirms more positive cases of COVID-19 reported at schools in the district. The district confirms the latest confirmed cases are at Cessna Elementary School, Kensler and Pleasant Valley middle schools and Wichita North High School.

This brings the total number of Wichita schools with confirmed cases to six. The latest information follows a report earlier this week about staff members at Curtis Middle School and Sowers Alternative High School testing positive for COVID-19.

In both of these cases, the district said it followed its COVID-19 response protocol of confirmation, contact tracing and notification. The district said it would notify close contacts as part of its response to contain the virus.

The Wichita school district did not confirm how many cases have been reported in each school.

Wichita Public Schools staff members returned to school for training this week. The first day for students in the state’s biggest district is Sept. 8.
