Man arrested in NE Wichita highway shooting

The Kansas Highway Patrol arrests a man for a shooting after the victim walks into a police substation.

Wichita police say the victim walked into the Patrol North substation around 10 a.m. on Monday and said he had been shot twice. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Through their investigation, police learned 31-year-old Charles Shely, of Park City, the victim and an acquaintance were driving on I-135 near 21st when a disturbance broke out. Shely shot the victim and then ran away.

Troopers located Shely in the 2500 block N. Kansas and arrested him on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder.

Police found a handgun in the vehicle.

They say the investigation is on-going.

Wichita police are investigating after they say a man ran into the Patrol North substation with a gunshot wound.

Police say the victim was in a vehicle with two others when he was shot by another person in the car.

The shooting suspect got out of the vehicle and started walking in the area of 21st St. N. and I-135.

The driver of the car brought the victim to a substation and did cooperate with the police.

The Kansas Highway Patrol spotted the suspect down I-135 and took them into custody.

Police say the shooting is not random and the individuals knew each other.

The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the shooting is not part of its investigation on Kansas Street.

Police are investing a shooting in northeast Wichita.

Sedgwick County dispatchers say a person walked into the Patrol North substation around 10 a.m. on Monday with a gunshot wound.

They were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Dispatchers say officers are in the 2500 block of N. Kansas investigating.
