Update, 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2019

The Wichita Police Department says five 14-year-old teens were taken to a local hospital with injuries from a Wednesday afternoon crash involving a stolen SUV in northeast Wichita.

Police say about 3:45 p.m., officers responded to an injury crash at 25th and Raleigh. When they arrived on scene, police say the officers found the five teens in the silver Volvo SUV, reported stolen early Wednesday morning.

Further, police say they learned this vehicle may have been involved in a drive-by shooting reported a little before the crash in the 2700 block of North Poplar.

In the shooting, police say people were inside the home hit with gunfire, but no one was injured. They say identified victims in this case are not cooperating and ask anyone with information about the shooting or the crash that followed to call Wichita police or contact Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.

In a briefing delivered about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, police say investigators will likely remain in the area for a few more hours, but there is no danger to people living in the neighborhood.

Five people, possibly teenagers, were hurt in a northeast Wichita crash Tuesday afternoon.

It happened around 4:15 p.m. in the 2500 block of E. Raleigh, near 25th and Grove.

Wichita police say most of the injuries from the single-vehicle crash were serious, but one was critical.

A witness told police they heard gunshots around the same time as the crash, then saw a vehicle flee from the scene. Officers are now trying to determine if there's any connection between the report of shots fired and the crash.

Eyewitness News has a crew on the scene where they hope to learn more about what happened.
