Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt signed a bill to increase the speed limit on the turnpikes from 75 to 80 miles per hour.
On certain state highways, the speed limit will also go up from 70 to 75. The changes will be implemented gradually.
Stitt says the state has worked with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to include language in the bill pertaining to traffic studies to keep the state in line with federal regulations.
