Woman critically hurt in East Wichita fire

UPDATE: Fire officials at the scene say the fire was started by someone smoking while on oxygen. Several oxygen tanks were found throughout the home.

Damage is estimated at around $35,000.

A woman is in critical condition after a house fire in east Wichita.

Crews were called to that fire in the 300 block of S. Vassar at around 2:30 a.m..

Fire officials at the scene say a woman was found in the back of the home with critical injuries. She was rushed to Via Christi's burn unit for treatment.

There were others in the home who were not hurt. The Red Cross was called in to assist them.

Fire investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.
