Storm Team 12 has issued a Weather Alert Day for parts of western and south-central Kansas through 11 p.m. on Friday.

Chief Meteorologist Ross Janssen says the main threat will be strong wind gusts of 60-70 mph. Storms will begin around 4 p.m. and then move east.

They are expected to reach Wichita around midnight.

Some hail storms are possible in the far western part of the state, but it's likely they will quickly switch to wind storms as they travel east.

'Given the dry air we've been feeling this week, the tornado threat is very low for this evening," says Ross.
