Salem, Iowa native heading home after making it to Top 13 of 'The Voice'

Iowa native Cali Wilson is heading back home.

Tuesday night, she sang her last song on the stage of the NBC reality show 'The Voice.'

After making it to the Top 13, the singer from Salem, Iowa was not chosen by the show's viewers to stay.

"This opportunity, I never ever thought I was going to get, and certainly not this far. I'm so thankful for it, and it's shown me that I deserve to be here and that I deserve to do music for the rest of my life," Wilson said.

She says she'll never forget the friends she's made and the support from her coach, Blake Shelton.

The top 13 contestants on NBC’s ‘The Voice’ will hit the stage Monday night.

Cali Wilson, a Salem, Iowa native is among those performing for one of 11 spots.

Wilson says, “I’m just excited to play on that stage again. It’s one of my favorite things ever and show days are my favorite days.”

Last Monday, Wilson performed a rendition of Britney Spears’ “Toxic,” earning her a save from coach Blake Shelton.

“I got saved by Blake and it was kind of a shock to me, but I’m happy to be here and I know I deserve to be here so it was really exciting to hear him call my name,” she says.

This week is dedication week on the show. Each artist will dedicate their song to a person of their choosing.

Wilson is dedicating her song to her girlfriend, Grace.

She says, “The music industry can be really tough, but she’s been there for me every step of the way and she’s pushed me and challenged me to do a lot of things that are out of my comfort zone, which is a big factor when you’re in the music industry.”

Grace will be in the audience Monday night along with Cali’s mom and other relatives.

Carla Wilson, Cali’s mom says, “It makes me almost cry sometimes because I'm proud of her.

The support, she says, has been overwhelming from both near and far. For Cali, the feeling is mutual.

“I think everybody was pretty mind-blown when I made the top 13 and even more excited! People even went to the Iowa game and handed out flyers on how to vote… and with my picture on them! It’s kind of crazy how dedicated my supporters are and I just want to take that opportunity to thank them and just know that I appreciate it and I don’t take it for granted.”

As Wilson gets ready to hit the stage Monday night, her mom has a very special message for her daughter.

“I love you, Cali. I am so proud and you’re living my dream. I would have loved to do what you’re doing. Keep doing your best and if it happens, it happens. We’ll be proud of you no matter what!”

Wilson moved on to the Top 13 after her rendition of Britney Spears' "Toxic" Monday night.

An Iowa native is shocking America with her enormous voice.

Wilson stunned America just weeks ago with her rendition of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams," earning a three-chair turn. She chose Team Blake.

Monday, TV6 sent questions to Wilson to answer ahead of her live performance.

TV6 asked Wilson if she was always Team Blake.

During her blind audition he told her he's been to Salem three or four times.

Wilson says, "I came into the blinds with Blake being my first choice. It was a tough decision because I wasn't prepared for three chairs to turn."

The 28-year-old has fought her way through the battles and knockouts.

Monday night, she has a new obstacle to conquer -- the live playoffs.

Wilson says she's "Just trying to focus on doing my thing and doing it to the best of my ability. Everything else is out of my control. I just have to show America I belong in the show."

Her performance Monday night will determine whether she moves on in the competition.

In addition to her community of Salem supporting her, Wilson has her University of Iowa Hawkeye family on her side as well.

"I love it. They posted on their social media yesterday for everybody to vote and support a Hawkeye. You know, there's gonna be a Hawkeye on The Voice stage tonight and it's gonna be incredible I think because not many people are doing what I do from my little state," she says.

Back in the small town of Salem, her hometown community is showing their support in an enormous way.

A watch party is planned Monday night during the live show, and spread throughout the town are signs of encouragement and blue ribbons for Cali.

Cali's mother, Carla, is grateful for the support shown by the community.

She explains, "Just how proud I am of her. How much I love her. I'm so proud of her."

"The Voice" starts at 7 p.m. Monday night. Voting begins when the show begins and continues through 6 a.m. CST Tuesday.
