AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 26-year-old man has died after being stabbed in east Austin on Friday. Police are still looking for the suspect.

Officers responded to the 1100 block of Estes Ave. near Springdale Road for a call about the reported incident around 6:38 p.m. and officers found a man in the street.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics took the victim to Dell Seton hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries but he was pronounced dead about 40 minutes later, APD Cpl. William Costello said in a Friday night briefing.

APD also launched their helicopter to help with the search for the suspect. Police say they set up a perimeter and they were able to detain one suspect.

Police say another suspect may still be an “outstanding suspect” but whether there is indeed another person involved or what his level of involvement is is unknown.

Costello says they don’t know for sure whether the victim and suspect or suspects knew each other, but it “appears” that they did so far in the investigation. There was reported to have been commotion and yelling in the street prior to the stabbing.

Costello says the victim was not homeless and while he doesn’t yet know, it doesn’t appear that the suspect is either.
